Your Online Assessment

How to Film and Send Your Swing

Thanks for booking your online Assessment. This guide takes about ten minutes to read and covers everything: getting into your coaching space, filming your swing at the right angles, and sending it to me.

Within three working days of getting your videos and your form, you'll get a personal video back from me.

Everything in one place

1. Join your coaching space

Your private coaching space with me, where everything happens.

2. Fill in the form

Five minutes on your game and your ball flight.

3. Film your swings

Your 7-iron and driver, face-on and down the line.

4. Post them in your space

Four short videos, each with a one-line label.

Join your private coaching space

Your private coaching space runs on CoachNow, the free app where you send me your swings and I send back your video. It's set up as soon as you buy.

  1. Download the free CoachNow app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Sign in with the email address you used to buy your Assessment. If you were sent an invite, tap Sign Up and Join in the email, or enter the 6-digit code in the app. The link only works once; after that, just sign in.
  3. Open your coaching space. You'll find a welcome message from me at the top.
  4. Turn on notifications, so you see my video the moment it's ready.

Says "email already in use"? You already have a CoachNow account, so sign in instead. Can't find the invite? Check your spam folder.

Fill in the form

It takes about five minutes. It tells me what your ball is doing, which a video can't show me, so please don't skip it.

Film your swings

What you'll need

  • Your phone, with plenty of battery and storage
  • Something to hold it steady: a phone tripod, or a phone clip on an alignment stick pushed into the ground. Not propped on your bag or the ground.
  • Two alignment sticks or clubs to lay on the ground
  • Your 7-iron and driver
  • Somewhere to hit: a range bay, a net or the course. Daylight in front of you is best; filming into the sun turns you into a silhouette.
  • Clothes that fit and stand out from the background

Set up your phone

  • Film in landscape, with the phone on its side.
  • Zoom fully out, then move the phone to frame the shot. Don't use zoom.
  • Use slow motion if your phone has it (120 or 240 frames per second). Normal speed is fine if it doesn't.
  • Record a five-second test and check it before you start.

Face-on

  • Put the phone at hand height (about hip height), level, not tilted.
  • Stand it 2 to 3 metres away, directly opposite your hands, facing your chest.
  • Check the frame: your whole body, the ball, and the club at the top of your swing are all in shot, with your feet near the bottom.
Face-on: phone opposite your hands, across the ball, facing your chest, 2 to 3 metres awayTargetYouFace-on2 to 3 m, hand height

Down the line

  • Lay a stick on the ground in line with your hands at address, pointing at your target.
  • Put the phone 2.5 to 3 metres behind you, on that stick's line, at hand height, pointing at the target.
  • Not on the line from the ball to the target, and not behind your feet. A phone a little off line makes your swing look different from how it is.
  • Check the frame: whole body, ball and club at the top all in shot.
Down the line: a stick on the ground in line with your hands, the phone behind you on that line pointing at the target, 2.5 to 3 metres backTargetYouStick under your handsDown the line2.5 to 3 m back

Left-handed?

Everything is the same, just mirrored. Face-on, the phone faces your chest. Down the line, it sits behind your hands, pointing at the target.

What to film

  • Four short videos: 7-iron face-on, 7-iron down the line, driver face-on, driver down the line.
  • Three swings in each video, hit with your normal routine. Your usual swings, not your best three.
  • After each shot, say "good" or "bad", or where it went, so I know the result.
  • Launch monitor numbers? Post a screenshot too. They're welcome but not needed.

Post your swings in your space

  1. Open the CoachNow app and go into your coaching space first.
  2. Tap the + button.
  3. Choose your video from your camera roll, or record it right there.
  4. Trim it so it starts just before your first swing and ends just after your last.
  5. Tap Post.
  6. Reply under the video with what it is, for example "7-iron, face-on".

Repeat for all four videos. Use Wi-Fi if you can; the lightning bolt icon shows the upload progress.

Videos saved only in your CoachNow Library are private, so I can't see them. They need to be posted in your space.

Before you leave the range

  • Phone steady, in landscape, zoomed out, at hand height
  • Face-on: opposite your hands, 2 to 3 metres away
  • Down the line: on your hand line, 2.5 to 3 metres back
  • Whole body, ball and club at the top in every shot
  • Three normal swings in each of the four videos
  • Light in front of you, not behind
  • Form filled in

Your video, and my promise

I'll check your videos within one working day. If any of them don't give me enough to go on, I'll tell you exactly what to reshoot and show you the problem. Reshoots are included, and your three working days start again from the new video.

Within three working days of having your videos and your form, you'll get a personal video from me, up to 15 minutes, in your space.

Questions? Message me in your coaching space, not by text or email, so everything stays in one place.

"If you don't finish the video knowing exactly what I'd work on first and why, I'll refund you in full." Just tell me in your space within 7 days of getting your video.
